Throwback Thursday

The Band, Bristol - 2003

Today’s throwback Thursday takes me back to life in my second year at Bristol, we’d moved out of student halls into a shared flat. We used to use the roof in lieu of a garden. My housemate Pedro and his friend Julius were starting a band and in need of a cover photo for their first album. As the proud owner of a digital camera, I took this photo for them.

James at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange

James at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange

I was in Edinburgh for work, the same time as James happened to be playing a warm-up gig at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange. Despite Yummy being my album of 2024, James weren’t a band I had high up on those I needed to see live. The show was incredible and I’d jump at the chance to see them again.

A Taste In Music

hello@bill.dev (Bill) — Fri, 25 Apr 2025 01:15:00 +0000

I entered my 40s unable to describe my taste in music. Up until recently I was unable to answer a simple question;

“What music do you listen to?”

In this post I look back at some of the experiments I’ve done in order to develop, or at least understand, my taste in music. It’s a long one so if you don’t make it to the end, I’d love some help building my collection. Send me an album recommendation accompanied by a short story of what the album means to you.
